Samsung is bringing crypto to millions of phones. The Solana Foundation announced on October 7, 2026 that Samsung Wallet and Samsung Pay will support stablecoins on the Solana blockchain. Users in the United States will be able to send money across borders using USDC starting in the last week of October. The feature will reach 82 million Galaxy devices at launch.
Built into the wallet
The feature is built directly into Samsung Wallet, not added as a separate app. Users can send money from the same screen they use for cards, boarding passes, and IDs. Built-in tools will convert between dollars and crypto automatically. Solana works behind the scenes, so users do not need to understand blockchain. They just see a simple way to send money abroad. More countries will follow later, depending on local rules.
Why stablecoins for payments
Stablecoins are crypto tokens tied to the dollar. They move fast and cost very little to send. This makes them useful for remittances, which are often slow and expensive through banks. Woncheol Chai, head of Samsung’s Digital Wallet team, said stablecoins can make moving money around the world faster and easier. He said Galaxy users should get these benefits without dealing with complex crypto tools. Solana was picked because it handles payments quickly and cheaply.
A big step for mainstream crypto
Solana Foundation president Lily Liu said stablecoins have worked well for ten years but never reached regular people. Samsung’s move puts digital dollars into everyday life through a trusted brand, she said. This is one of the largest mainstream adoptions of crypto payments so far. If it succeeds, other phone makers may add similar features. For Solana, it is a major win that could bring millions of new users to its network without them ever knowing they use blockchain.
Stablecoins go mainstream
The timing is no accident. Stablecoin use on Solana is growing fast. Circle minted about $3.5 billion worth of USDC on Solana in the past week alone, boosting liquidity on the network. Total stablecoin supply across crypto has hit record highs this year. Big companies want a piece of the action. By building stablecoin payments into phones people already own, Samsung could onboard millions of first-time crypto users.
The global remittance market is worth hundreds of billions of dollars a year. Migrant workers often pay high fees to send money home. Stablecoins on fast blockchains can cut those fees to nearly zero. If Samsung’s feature works well, it could pressure banks and money transfer firms to lower their own prices. For now, the launch is limited to the US, but Samsung says more markets will follow.
